About

Slot Canyons Inn sits on UT-12 west of Escalante, right on the edge of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. It's a purpose-built bed-and-breakfast opened in 2006, and it stands out on this stretch of highway for combining well-appointed rooms with an on-site restaurant — rare in a town where dining options are limited. Bryce Canyon is roughly 50 miles northwest; Escalante's famous slot canyons (Spooky, Peek-a-boo, Coyote Gulch) are accessible within minutes.

Rooms and Amenities

The inn offers suites and family rooms, each with a private bathroom, air conditioning, and free Wi-Fi. Many rooms include a balcony or terrace with views of the surrounding canyon landscape — garden, mountain, or river perspectives depending on the unit. Handcrafted breakfasts are included, prepared on-site.

Dining: North Creek Grill

The on-property restaurant, North Creek Grill, serves seasonal menus with both indoor and outdoor patio seating — one of the better sit-down options in the Escalante area. The kitchen emphasizes fresh, thoughtfully prepared dishes. Outdoor seating is weather-dependent but the setting is appealing when conditions cooperate.

Location Notes

Escalante is a small town with a limited commercial strip; having breakfast and dinner available on-site removes the need to drive around hunting for meals after a long day of hiking. The inn also offers a sun terrace, lounge, and picnic area. Free on-site parking is included. This is a practical base for multi-day exploration of Grand Staircase-Escalante as well as day trips toward Bryce.

We loved staying in the Anasazi Suite because of the balcony (described by other reviewers). The Inn is situated on a ranch with a long history, in a beautiful setting among sandstone cliffs, outside of Escalante. Take some time to read the owner's account of the establishment of the Inn. High point for us was meals at the in-house North Creek Grill, under new management since March 2026 by a couple of talented restauranteurs from Salt Lake City, Brendan and Sam. Their operation has the potential to become another Hell's Backbone Grill, we thought.

Excellent service, beautifully decorated rooms/suites, Carolyn is simply the best host you can find. Perfect location to escape from the world for a few days and nights. Highly recommend and will be back and the hand crafted breakfast is out of this world.

This amazing hidden gem of a “bed & breakfast” is located west of downtown Escalante on the north side of the historic, scenic Utah State Highway 12 (UT-12). Take the Old Escalante Road (dirt road) over the Escalante River and take a sharp right on to West Ephriams Cp Road and follow to the Inn. There are two dirt parking areas, an upper and lower with the office located in the upper parking lot. The Inn is situated on a 160-acres private ranch/farm offering a cozy, comfortable lodging experience with both traditional inn rooms to private suites. Our suite (Dance Hall Rock) had two patio decks, one private the other semi-private, with a gas fireplace, claw-footed tub and all surrounded by sandstone cliffs and dark night skies (see photos of the Milky Way we took from the private deck. The suite was large and very comfortable, and the manager (Carolyn) and her husband were the perfect hosts, warm, personal and friendly. In the morning, we were greeted to a delectable freshly made hand-crafted breakfast (included with our stay) that we are told changes daily. The breakfast was fantastic and the perfect start to our day. There is also an on-site upscale restaurant that serves dinner nightly with seasonally inspired dinners but is closed from Sunday to Tuesday. This is the ideal place to sit back, relax and enjoy Mother Nature at its finest. We will be back but next time for more than one night – thank you Carolyn for making our stay so memorable.

This was a clean and comfortable place to stay! The staff went above and beyond when we needed help with our car as we lived out of town. I 100% would stay here again! A special thanks goes out to Carolyn and her family.

This stay was truly one of a kind. You’re in the middle of the mountains/canyon. You’re 40 minutes from Bryce Canyon, right off the famous and scenic Highway 12. The rooms are very clean and nice, they have horses, goats, ponies and cats on property that all are sweet and friendly. The host Ms. Carolyn is such a kind, thoughtful and motherly person - she truly makes you feel at home. I would highly recommend staying here!
