Artist-hosted inn with orchard views in Tropic

About

River Stone Inn and Gallery is a small inn and converted art studio in Tropic, about seven miles east of Bryce Canyon's entrance. Hosts Clay and Rebecca Wagstaff — both working artists — run the property out of a historic house and an adjacent studio building, giving it a character that's meaningfully different from the strip motels and chain lodges that dominate the park corridor.

Rooms and Suites

There are four distinct accommodations. The Heritage and Tropic rooms occupy the original historic house, while the Studio and Walnut Tree rooms are in the converted river stone art studio. Each has a private entrance, a private en suite bathroom, and a kitchenette, so you're not sharing common areas with strangers. Rooms are individually decorated with original artwork. A welcome basket with snacks, coffee, tea, and cocoa is included with every stay.

Breakfast and Grounds

Breakfast is home-cooked and described by guests as generous and well-made — a step up from the continental offerings you'll find at most area motels. The property has a productive orchard: apples, pears, apricots, peaches, and plums are available to pick in season. The yard is a genuinely pleasant place to unwind, with hummingbirds active in summer and occasional deer at dusk. It's the kind of place where slowing down feels appropriate.

Practical Notes

Tropic's location on UT-12 puts you close to both Bryce Canyon and the northern edge of Grand Staircase-Escalante. The inn suits travelers who want personal hospitality and surroundings with a sense of place, rather than points-program lodging. Book direct through the property website to confirm availability, as it's a small operation.

This is the cutest Inn with a great location. Close to Bryce Canyon. Quiet neighborhood and the best hosts ever! So helpful with suggestions on where to eat and where to hike. Will definitely stay here again!

We had such a great stay! Kimmi was so welcoming and helpful and really made our stay. She made a campfire for us and we had a great time hanging out with her!

Loved the River Stone Inn and highly recommend. We stayed in the Walnut Tree and Studio rooms which were cute and comfortable. The grounds were a delight as we saw mule deer, hummingbirds, apple trees, pear trees and more. The on-site host is outstanding and truly made our stay perfect.

Loved this place. Quiet. Comfortable and peaceful. 2 block walk to restaurants in tropic and 15 minutes from Bryce. Kimmi was great with communication. I would stay here again.

We could not have had a more perfect stay in the Studio Room thanks to Kimmi. We felt so welcomed from the minute we arrived by Kimmi the inn keeper, she truly is one of the kindest people I have ever met. Our favorite part was gathering around a bonfire at night with other guests to hear about everyones adventures and to view the amazing stars. The wildlife in the yard is also so enjoyable to watch as you relax. The bed in the studio room was very comfortable. It was just two of us for the stay but there are other beds available for more guests. Coffee in the room was appreciated along with a welcome treat tray left for us. This was the perfect place to stay for our 2 day visit to Bryce. It is a stay we will never forget, thank you Kimmi!
