Country-style rooms in a seasonal, woodsy B&B offering a warm lounge & a wraparound porch.

About

Rainbow Country Bed and Breakfast sits on a quiet residential street in Escalante, about 45 minutes east of Bryce Canyon on Scenic Byway 12 and within easy striking distance of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument's slot canyons. The four-room B&B has been a reliable base for canyoneers and road-trippers who prefer a home-cooked breakfast and genuine local knowledge over a chain motel.

Rooms and Amenities

All four guest rooms have private bathrooms, and common areas include a spacious lounge with a pool table, big-screen TV, board games, and a book collection. The wraparound sun deck has open views of the surrounding desert and mountains — a good place to plan the next day's route. A hot tub rounds out the outdoor options. Free Wi-Fi and parking are included.

Breakfast and Host Knowledge

Hostess Catherine prepares homemade breakfasts — pancakes, French toast, egg scrambles — that reviewers consistently single out as a highlight. More practically, her firsthand knowledge of the area is extensive: she can point you toward the right trailheads for Coyote Gulch, the best time of year for the Cosmic Abyss, and which local restaurants are actually worth the stop. The B&B is seasonal — confirm open dates before booking, especially for shoulder-season and winter travel.

My wife and I spent a night there recently, and we loved the time we had. It was homey, comfortable, and it just felt like a haven from the world. Excellent base for side trips into other incredible scenic locations and national parks. Highly recommended. Loved Clark & Catherine!

The house is quite old, and the grounds were neglected. Our room was in the basement, accessible via a staircase in the hostess's living room. It was approximately 9 square meters, and with two suitcases plus hand luggage, space was very limited. The ceiling height is quite low for anyone over 190 cm tall and has fluorescent lighting. It was clean, but cold and smelled musty. The furnishings are also outdated. At 192 cm tall, I found the bed, estimated at 190 x 90 cm, much too small for a restful night's sleep. The bathroom, accessible via the hallway, is adequate. There is no emergency exit from the basement. The hostess was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was okay. We decided not to use the second night we had booked. We felt the price of €115 per night was far too high for the condition of the accommodation. I cannot understand the positive reviews that formed the basis of our booking.

I've traveled for business and pleasure for 25 years. I've stayed in numerous places in the US and 20 other countries. This was one of the worst places I've stayed for what I paid. We showed up after dark. There weren't house numbers on some of the homes on the street, and ones that did, we couldn't read in the dark. There wasn't any sign in the front yard letting us know which property was the B&B. The GPS didn't give an accurate location. We called the owner as we sat on the street in the dark, wondering which house was correct. The call went to voice mail. We knocked on the door of a home on the street, and the neighbor gave us directions. The bedroom was in the basement. There was nothing warm or comfortable about the room. The mattress was pathetic. I'm guessing the shag carpet had been on the floor for a long time. The lights in the ceiling were the fluorescent tubes you would find in an office. The bathroom was poorly designed. We could have stayed in a motel in Escalante for the same or less money and had a better room for the night.

Perfect, quiet place to relax after a long day of hiking around the area. Comfortable room with a much needed bathtub. Exceptional breakfast with hot coffee and great conversation.
