About

Purple Sage Motel sits right on Center Street in the heart of Panguitch, about 24 miles from Bryce Canyon National Park's entrance. Panguitch is the Garfield County seat and has more services than the smaller gateway towns closer to the park — gas, groceries, and a handful of local restaurants — making this a practical overnight choice if you're doing multiple southern Utah stops.

Rooms

The motel has 14 air-conditioned rooms, each with a flat-screen TV with satellite channels, a mini-fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. Bathrooms include a separate shower and basic toiletries. Rooms are straightforward and clean — this is a no-frills stop, not a resort, but reviews consistently note that the property is well maintained. Free Wi-Fi and free parking are included. Check-in is at 3 PM, check-out at 11 AM.

Location and Planning Notes

The motel's downtown Panguitch location puts you a short walk from local diners and less than a mile from US-89. The 24-mile drive to Bryce Canyon takes roughly 30 minutes on UT-12. If you're planning a full day in the park, leaving by 8 AM lets you reach Sunrise Point before the main crowds arrive. Panguitch also serves as a reasonable base for Red Canyon (about 10 miles south on US-89), which has its own hoodoos and a good paved cycling trail through the canyon walls.

I stopped at this motel to charge my Tesla when I realized I wouldn’t make it to a Supercharger. The man and woman at the front desk were extremely helpful and kind, which meant a lot after dealing with a bit of racism in Duck Creek. They helped me get my car charged and even recommended some great places to eat nearby. When I got back to my car, the front office was closed, and the woman had left me a note. It was such a sweet gesture. I would definitely stay here if I’m ever back in the area.

Loved it. The room was decorated so nicely and they were super clean. Staff was so nice! Purple is my favorite color so it was a really nice end to the day, haha! Thank you so much for the wonderful stay :)

Up to 11kw EV (CCS) charging is great! $0.25/kwh if you're staying here. Motel is definitely on the older side, but it appears that they are working on a lot of repairs and modernizations. Room was clean and updated. The room AC units are a little noisy, but overall it was a great stay.

Incredible customer service. Beautifully updated and modern rooms with a lovely purple color theme and attractive artwork of local redrock scenery. This is an adorable retro-modern stay that is totally worth checking out. It's in the cute historic district of Panguitch and very close to Bryce Canyon National Park. The only down side is that the street noise can sometimes be heard but it wasn't too bad. I was able to sleep happily and I'm noise sensitive. Turning the fan on or playing gentle music was good for me. (Update: our next stay here, there was a man in the room above us who walked around all night and we could feel that in our room, it could even be felt through the walls into our bed; it was most unpleasant. This is why not 5 stars.) This really is a great place that is thoughtfully taken care of and customers are treated like friends.
