About

Navajo Lake Campground sits on the edge of Navajo Lake in Duck Creek Village, up on the Markagunt Plateau at around 9,000 feet. The setting is genuinely beautiful. The lake is right there, the air is cool even in summer, and on a clear night the sky does things that are hard to describe to someone who's never been this far from city lights.

Most sites are designed for RVs, so if you're coming with a tent, pay attention when you book. The walk-up sites (21 and 22 in particular) are worth the short hike in. Site 22 has a view that'll make you forget you carried everything in on foot. Bring a wagon if you have one; it makes hauling gear a lot easier.

The campground has flush toilets, sinks, and plenty of water spigots spread around the property. The host keeps things clean and is genuinely helpful if you have questions or need anything. It's a well-maintained spot for the elevation and the setting.

Duck Creek Village is about 45 minutes from Cedar City and sits along Scenic Byway 12's northern reaches. It's a solid base for exploring Cedar Breaks National Monument, the Dixie National Forest, and the broader southern Utah high country. Bryce Canyon National Park is roughly an hour east, making this a good overnight stop on a longer Utah road trip.

One thing to pack: layers. Even in June, nights at 9,000 feet get cold fast.

Overall our stay at Navajo Lake Campgrounds was a positive experience. The drive coming up from Cedar City was about 45 minutes and had incredible views of Dixie National Forest, although driving on the road itself felt very perilous, at least for my fiancé in my passenger seat. The campground itself was easy to navigate, with water spigots and multiple restrooms with toilet paper and one we found with running water, but no soap. Some firepits had grates to cook on, and others did not. Quiet hours were between 10pm and 6am, and firewood was being sold for $10 bucks by the Campground Host, Sue, who was both accomodating and helpful. This is an easy place to camp, but not meant for people new to being outdoors. Our WiFi dropped immediately after getting to the campsite as well, so keep that in mind before committing to the trip. When the sun was out, there were flies, bees, dragonflies, and all sorts of critters that went away when the sun went down. Although it was the start of summer it was still freezing cold in the evening. Prepare accordingly for cold weather, have layers and stay ready for impromptu rain. The lake, the forest, and the wildlife were all beautiful and majestic. We saw a variety of birds, chipmunks, butterflies, and a young deer that roamed around our campsite. If you're ready, you're in for a peaceful and relaxing adventure!

Tired of the valley heat? Sync up with Navajo Lake on Cedar Mountain. The lodge is the real MVP — Steve at the desk was awesome to work with, super chill and hooked me up in minutes. They rent boats, sell all the necessities, and their burgers are so good they’ll crash your diet app. For my fish story, I rented a boat and hooked what I thought was the boss level trout. This absolute unit dragged me around the lake like I was on a leash, launched itself out of the water like it was showing off, then spat my lure right back at me with pure disrespect. I swear that fish looked me dead in the eye and laughed before ghosting me. Total savage. But man, that sunset over the lake hits different. The whole vibe is pure peace — just you, the water, and the mountain glowing orange. Chillest five-star escape ever.

Been going here yearly ,yes I always only go for Labor Day weekend and I have often stay camping on the woods but have gotten lucky and found spots at campground which are about $30 per night. I always enjoy getting to the lake and doing some fishing and if not too cold why not putting my feet in the water too.

Great place to come to if you love camping and want to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of city life. The quietness at night, no sounds other than nature, no lights, just beautiful!
