Escalante, UT

About

Escalante Yurts sits 1.5 miles north of Escalante on Pine Creek Road, placing it centrally between Bryce Canyon (roughly 45 miles west), Capitol Reef (70 miles northeast), and the slot canyons of Grand Staircase-Escalante directly to the south and east. Opened in 2017, the property was built by owners Jan and Scott Roundy specifically as a high-comfort glamping experience — the yurts are purpose-designed accommodations, not repurposed camping structures.

Accommodations

Each yurt comes with quality linens and a real bed, private bathroom, heating and air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a television, a coffee maker, a mini fridge, and a microwave. Larger yurts include a full kitchen with a cooktop and dishwasher — practical if you're staying multiple nights and heading into the backcountry during the day. A continental breakfast is included with each stay. Private outdoor seating areas and access to fire pits are standard across the property.

Setting and Activities

The location at the edge of Escalante puts guests within a short drive of trailheads for Coyote Gulch, Peek-a-Boo and Spooky Gulch, and the Lower Escalante River canyons. Dark-sky viewing here is excellent — Escalante has minimal light pollution, and the property provides hammock lounge chairs for stargazing. The town of Escalante has a small outfitter, a couple of restaurants, and a BLM visitor center for trip planning.

  • Book well in advance for spring and fall — shoulder season dates fill quickly with slot-canyon hikers
  • Ask about road conditions on Hole-in-the-Rock Road before heading out to the southern trailheads
  • Escalante is roughly a 45-minute drive from the Bryce Canyon entrance via UT-12 Scenic Byway

My bestie and I decided to take a girls trip to Utah to ground ourselves and decompress for a few days. Since neither of us have been to the major parks in Utah, we decided to sample areas on this trip and use this experience to determine where we'd like to return and explore in more detail. When she told me staying in a yurts was on her bucket list, I had no idea what she was talking about. So I hopped on Google and found Escalante Yurts and immediately felt like this was where we were supposed to go. The pictures on the website DO NOT DO THIS JUSTICE! Words cannot express the shear beauty of the area, the generosity, kindness and thoughtfulness of the hosts or the wow factor of the yurts. The decor, design and amenities in the yurts were perfect - the perfection of the space blew us away. Our entire experience was a 10+ and we will absolutely be coming back when we return in the spring. We are so grateful for the opportunity to stay here and I can't imagine anyone feeling any different.

★★★★★ Our stay at this yurt retreat in Escalante exceeded every expectation we had. Jan and Scott are absolutely wonderful hosts. They went above and beyond to accommodate us, so we could stay in a particularly desirable yurt. Their kindness and hospitality made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Scott provided excellent recommendations for local restaurants, attractions, and places to explore, which helped make our trip unforgettable. Scott shared the story of how he and his late father worked to build the yurt business, and it was inspiring to hear the passion, dedication, and story behind what they have created. The yurt itself was exceptional. It was spotless—honestly cleaner than many five-star hotels we have visited. Every detail was thoughtfully considered, and we were pleasantly surprised by the generous amenities, including fresh fruit, breakfast items, pastries, and drinks. What stands out most is that this isn’t just a place to stay; it’s an experience. The property is beautiful, peaceful, and welcoming, and the hosts genuinely care about their guests. We left feeling grateful for the experience and are already talking about returning with more family members. As much as I would like to keep this my secret place to stay. If you’re visiting Escalante and looking for a unique, comfortable, and unforgettable place to stay, this is it. Thank you, Jan and Scott, for creating something truly special. We can’t wait to come back!

Escalante Yurts was a fantastic home base for our time in Escalante - the yurt itself is nicer than most hotels, and was very spacious for 4 people (Cottonwood). The hosts were fantastic and helpful, and the breakfast they offered was so convenient to help get us out early in the morning to our adventures. We would definitely stay here again!

I’m not surprised this place only has 5 stars. It was amazing! My party of 6 stayed in a yurt with two bedrooms and a loft with three beds. The AC units in the space really do a great job! I was in the loft and the unit in the kitchen kept even the loft area a very cool temperature. The rooms have personal units and I heard they were great too. The host is so kind, they provide a nice continental breakfast and Gatorade each evening. They make it all on site and it’s all delicious! They even brought us a can opener upon request. The location is beautiful, it’s at the end of town for Escalante but right by the BLM road that has all the best hikes. Every yurt comes with a deck for Star gazing and a table if you want to eat outside. They also have a fire pit and offer wood! I would absolutely stay here again and recommend it to anyone who wants to stay in the area!

OH MY GOSH! This was the best vacation decision we have made in a while. The yurt was clean, comfy, SO CUTE, and in a great location. THEIR SERVICE WAS AMAZING. They left us breakfast for the next mornings each day we were there, and had all the amenities we needed. Check in was a breeze as well. DEFINITELY COMING BACK AND BRINGING FAMILY!
