Bybee's Steppingstone Inn sits at the south end of Tropic's Main Street, about a 4-minute drive from Bryce Canyon National Park's entrance. It's a family-owned, smoke-free property with a mix of standard motel rooms and newer private cottages — a practical, affordable base for a Bryce Canyon trip that's closer to the park than most of the lodging in Bryce Canyon City.
The property has seven air-conditioned units. Standard rooms include a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and shower/tub combination. Each room is individually decorated with original artwork by the owner, which gives the place a more personal feel than a typical budget motel. Newer private cottages are also available for guests who want more space and separation. Free Wi-Fi and free parking are included.
Outside, guests have access to a terrace, a fire pit, and a garden area — good for unwinding after a day on the Navajo Loop or Queens Garden Trail. The town of Tropic is walkable from the property, with a few local restaurants and shops within a short distance.
Bybee's works well for solo travelers, couples, and small families who want a clean, no-frills room close to the park without paying resort prices. Because it's in Tropic rather than Bryce Canyon City, you're in a quieter setting while still being only minutes from the rim. Close to Bryce Canyon. Easy late check in after leaving the canyon late. Across the road from great restaurants. Staff happy to direct us with enquiries about a late check in. Clean room, hot shower with good pressure. Great price

I’ve always been weary about booking smaller independent hotels , but Steppingstone truly showed me how amazing it can be. I desperately needed a night with a shower and bed on my cross country road trip after camping for several days. I booked the room last minute on my drive towards Bryce Canyon and right away Angela (the receptionist) came back to the hotel to let me in. She was so efficient and kind. It was just the reset I needed. The room was very well taken care of and clean and the bed was so comfortable! It was also so quiet. I would defintiely stay here again if I am passing through the area and checking out the national parks again! Highly recommend! Thank you so so much!

Very clean and well-equipped rooms. We had a problem with our room door, and the very friendly owner took care of it immediately. Would gladly stay again.

Great location for our rappelling tour the next morning. Very spacious and comfortable cottage! Well appointed with everything we needed. Loved using a door code instead of worrying about a key card! Great place to unwind after lots of hiking!

Great location for visiting Bryce Canyon (15-minute drive). The motel has only a few rooms, but the room was very clean and quiet despite being close to the street. The bed was comfortable and had everything you need. Parking is available across the street. Highly recommended. PS: For the owners, please consider adding extra cutlery and plates. Thank you!
