B&B / Inn

Informal B&B offering cozy themed rooms and a country breakfast, plus mountain views & a sun deck.

Tropic, UT

About

Bryce Trails Bed and Breakfast is a small inn on Bryce Way in Tropic, roughly a 10-minute drive from the Bryce Canyon entrance. It operates as a true B&B — country breakfast included, individually decorated rooms, a sun deck with mountain views — rather than a motel that happens to serve coffee in the lobby. For travelers who prefer a more personal stay over a chain property, it's one of the stronger options in the immediate gateway area.

Rooms

The inn has six themed rooms, each named for a Bryce Canyon trail or feature:

  • Under the Rim Suite — the largest room, second floor, king bed, sitting area with leather chairs, and a massage chair
  • Fairy Land — queen bed, jacuzzi tub, separate shower, wooded views
  • Queen's Garden — light and airy, floral English garden theme
  • Bristle Cone Pine — forest-themed decor
  • Mossy Cave — outdoor adventure theme
  • Navajo Loop — named for the park's most-walked trail

Breakfast and Setting

A full country breakfast is served each morning — useful when you want to be at Sunrise Point early without stopping for food first. The outdoor sun deck looks out toward the plateau, and the surrounding area is quiet enough that you're not contending with parking-lot noise.

Booking Notes

The inn is small, so rooms book up during peak season (May through September). Reaching out directly via the website or phone is the most reliable way to confirm availability for specific dates.

My wife and I like B & Bs for the breakfasts and the innkeepers. The location had beautiful views and this was a private residence on a residential street. The woman who runs this B&B was extremely unfriendly. When we arrived we introduced ourselves and we were answered with a grunt. No name. She never asked where we were from, what we were doing during our stay, where else we were visiting on our trip, or if we needed advice or had questions about the local area or the park. Every time I encountered her during our 2 night stay she seemed distracted and genuinely unhappy. She did offer dinner recommendations when asked. The breakfasts were ok; nothing special (the eggs benedict on day 2 were ice cold). The kitchen was dirty with the remnants from the last meal all over the place. She left the eggs out overnight. The coffee pot in our room had no filter. She told us there is always coffee available in the main room, but I’m pretty certain it was the same pot for the first 36 hours we were there. Nasty coffee. The icing on the cake? When we awoke the second morning I went into the common area looking for coffee. The entire kitchen and eating area was filled with smoke and there was a pot actively burning on the stove. A teenager (daughter of innkeeper?) was coughing and opening windows as the flames rolled out of the pot. I asked where the innkeeper was and the girl said she couldn’t find her. She told me I should go outside since it was too dangerous and she ran out. I turned off the stove and brought the burning pot outside. Later I asked the woman about it and she blew me off. She said there are smoke detectors. That may be true, but they clearly were not functioning properly. She offered no explanation or any thanks for my help. NOTE: The reply to my review contains a very serious inaccuracy. There was absolutely an active fire in the pot, with the flames extending 12-18" from the top of the pot. I was a professional firefighter for 32 years and I know exactly what an active fire is. This was not smoking butter, and I am shocked that the owner would A) try to minimize the incident, B) imply that my statement was false or misleading, and C) state that there was no active fire when she wasn't present and did not see what happened. On top of that, there may be smoke detectors in that part of the home, but if there are they were definitely not functioning properly or as designed at the time of the incident.

Has this place changed hands because I don’t understand the good reviews? I would rate it below average. The only good thing is location. There’s a sign on the door emphasizing that check in is at 4:00. We arrived at 3:50, and although only two rooms had to be prepared for new guests and they don’t do daily service for current guests, we had to wait until exactly 4:00 before our key was hung on a hook for us. There was no one to greet us or explain how things worked there. The room was OK, but very dated and well used. The shower varied between adequate and pathetic depending on the water pressure of the minute. All guests are told to be at breakfast by 8:15am, but for the two days we were there, food did not show up until after 8:30. No one was in the breakfast room to greet us so we had to discover the coffee, juice etc. for ourselves. There was a Breville coffee machine, but no one ever asked if we would like a latte or espresso etc. We were never asked what we would like for breakfast or even if we had any food allergies or dislikes. No cereal, toast or anything like that, and milk was served in a gallon jug straight from the supermarket. All 12 of us were served the same thing at the same time and both breakfasts were awful. On the first day one guest said he couldn’t eat what was being served and was given an untoasted bagel. Next day, someone saw what was being prepared and told the cook that he could not eat egg yolks and asked if he could have scrambled egg whites and the lady said he should have let her know in advance. She was really put out, but since none of us saw her except at breakfast, this was impossible. The first day breakfast was an egg casserole – unsalted and tasteless – served with a croissant, no butter, no jelly. Day two was eggs, bacon and tater tots. All the eggs were cooked hard – no requests from the cook, and the tater tots were mushy and oily. All 12 guests left most of their breakfasts both days. This is more like a cheap motel than a B & B. If anyone was served this food in a restaurant, they would refuse to pay and maybe that’s why they make guests pay in advance.

What an amazing place to stay. We were taking a long weekend to visit Capitol Reef and stopped over at Bryce Trails BnB. The rooms was comfortable and large. Great views too. The breakfast was amazing and solid coffee lol. I love the idea of sitting across from strangers to hear what adventure they are headed out to see. I'd definitely stay here again and again. Reasonably priced and easy to get to.
