Basin Campground

Quiet base camp in the land of sand pipes

(48)
Henrieville, UT

About

Basin Campground sits inside Kodachrome Basin State Park, roughly 9 miles south of Cannonville off Cottonwood Canyon Road — about 25 miles from Bryce Canyon's southern entrance. The campground is positioned at the head of the basin, putting you within a short walk of the park's hiking trails and within constant view of the sedimentary sandstone spires called sand pipes that make Kodachrome Basin distinct from anything else in the region.

Sites and Facilities

The campground offers a mix of standard and full-hookup RV sites, each with a picnic table, fire ring, and grill. Restrooms with hot showers are maintained on-site, and potable water and dishwashing stations are available. Coin-op laundry and firewood sales round out the practical amenities. Generator use is limited to designated hours — check current park rules before you arrive. Reservations are strongly recommended and can be made through the Utah State Parks reservation system.

Season and Access

The campground generally operates March through late November; it closes for winter. The access road from Cannonville is paved to the park entrance. Cell service is limited — download maps before you go. Because Kodachrome Basin sees far fewer visitors than Bryce Canyon itself, this is a quieter base camp with genuine dark skies for stargazing.

Nearby Activities

  • Panorama Trail — the park's main hiking loop, accessible directly from the campground
  • Angel's Palace Trail — short but scenic ridge walk with wide basin views
  • Corral Hollow Trail — connects to the broader Kodachrome trail network
  • Cottonwood Canyon Road — scenic drive toward Grand Staircase-Escalante NM

This was one of the nicest campgrounds we have visited in our travels. Beautiful views and local trails to hike. The only negative was the speed the volunteers and rangers drove around in their ATV's.

One of the most beautiful campgrounds we've ever stayed at. Nestled amidst a magnificent landscape, this top-notch campground boasts luxury showers and immaculately maintained restrooms. Sites with water, electricity, and dry facilities are available. We stayed at site number 17, a basic, no-frills spot. Kodachrome State Park is an absolute highlight, located very close to Bryce Canyon. Angels Palace is a fantastic, relatively easy hike with superb views amidst breathtaking scenery.

Great campground with clean showers. By far best showers I've been in any campground. Beautiful surrounding scenery and trails.
