Yovimpa Pass
A quiet backcountry saddle on the Riggs Spring Loop
(0)
About
Yovimpa Pass is a saddle on the Riggs Spring Loop, about 1.6 miles from the Rainbow Point/Yovimpa Point trailhead at the park's south end. It's reached on foot, part of an overnight backcountry route rather than a drive-up stop, and it sits in a stand of aspen, ponderosa pine, and blue spruce with a reliable spring-fed stream just below — one of the more dependable water sources on the loop, though it still needs treating before drinking. From the pass you get open views out over the Pink Cliffs and into the Grand Staircase beyond the park boundary.
Good to know
- Reached via the Riggs Spring Loop, an 8.6-mile backcountry route out of Rainbow/Yovimpa Point
- A backcountry permit from the visitor center is required for any overnight stay
- Water is available nearby but must be treated
- Elevation here is high enough that snow and ice linger on the approach roughly November–April
