Wilson Peak
A drive-up summit with a view over Red Canyon and Bryce

About
Wilson Peak rises to about 9,029 feet in the Dixie National Forest north of Bryce Canyon, and it's one of the rare high points in the area you can drive rather than hike. A dirt road climbs from the highway turnoff to the ridgeline and follows it for several miles past a cluster of communication towers to the summit area. What you get for the drive is the payoff: a wide-open vantage over Red Canyon's red rock fins directly below, Bryce Canyon's plateau to the south, and Powell Point further east.
Good to know
- Access is by high-clearance vehicle on unpaved Forest Service road, not a maintained foot trail
- Best used as a scenic overlook stop rather than a hiking destination
- Elevation and exposed ridgeline mean afternoon monsoon storms (roughly July–September) are a lightning risk
- Snow can close the access road in winter months
