Willis Creek Trail
An easy, non-technical slot canyon walk near Cannonville
(0)
About
Willis Creek Trail, often called the Willis Creek Narrows, is an easy walk through a series of short slot canyons in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, about 9 miles south of Cannonville on Skutumpah Road. Unlike many slot canyons in the region, this one requires no scrambling or technical gear — it's a flat wash walk between tall, colorful slickrock walls, with an out-and-back option running up to about 6 miles depending on how far you go.
Good to know
- Skutumpah Road is graded dirt, passable to most vehicles in dry conditions but rough and potentially impassable when wet
- Managed by the BLM under Grand Staircase-Escalante, with the more permissive access norms typical of monument land rather than a national park
- Flash flooding is a genuine risk here as in any slot canyon — check the forecast, especially July through September
- A solid choice for families and first-time slot canyon hikers given the flat, non-technical footing
