Roadside access to the Under-the-Rim backcountry

About
This is the trailhead for the Whiteman Connecting Trail, reached from a pullout on Bryce Canyon National Park's main scenic drive near the 9-mile marker. From here the trail descends roughly 500 feet through a wooded gully to meet the Under-the-Rim Trail at Whiteman Bench, near the Swamp Canyon backcountry campsite.
Good to know
- Simple pullout parking directly off the park road — no separate access road or fee beyond standard park entrance
- Primarily a backpacker access point for the Under-the-Rim Trail, though day hikers use it for a shorter out-and-back with views over Mud Canyon
- Standard NPS interior rules apply: no pets on the trail, and any overnight stay at Swamp Canyon requires a backcountry permit
