About
Whiteman Connecting Trail drops about 500 feet from a pullout near the 9-mile marker on the Bryce Canyon National Park scenic drive, working down through a wooded gully alongside a wash to meet the Under-the-Rim Trail near Whiteman Bench and Swamp Canyon. It's used mainly by backpackers reaching the roughly halfway point of the 22.9-mile Under-the-Rim Trail, but it also works as a shorter out-and-back for day hikers after views over Mud Canyon and the Paria Valley.
Good to know
- The Swamp Canyon backcountry campsite sits just north of the junction with no water or facilities — backcountry campers need an NPS permit
- As an NPS interior trail, standard park rules apply: no pets, and backcountry camping requires a permit
- Round trip to the junction and back covers roughly 1,000 feet of elevation change
