Waterfall Trail

A short, easy walk to Bryce's man-made waterfall and grotto

Bryce Canyon City, UT

About

The Waterfall Trail most likely refers to the short walk to the falls at Mossy Cave, on the north side of Bryce Canyon National Park off Highway 12 between mile markers 17 and 18. It's an easy 0.8-mile round trip to a grotto and a waterfall — though both are shaped by people, not entirely by nature: pioneers dug the canal feeding this stretch of water to irrigate Bryce Valley, and the "cave" is a constantly dripping alcove rather than a true cavern.

Good to know

  • The trailhead sits outside the main park entrance, so no park gate pass-through is required to reach it
  • Summer brings green moss and running water along with the biggest crowds
  • Winter turns the grotto and falls into ice, a dramatic and much quieter version of the hike
  • Family-friendly grade with minimal elevation change
