Day Hike
Virgin River Rim Trail - Cascade Falls to Te-Ah Campground
Rim views and a forest descent into Te-Ah
(0)
About
This stretch of the Virgin River Rim Trail runs roughly 7 to 9 miles between the Cascade Falls trailhead and Te-Ah Campground at Navajo Lake, tracing the edge of the plateau with steady views out over the Virgin River drainage toward Zion. Along the way there's the option to detour down to Cascade Falls itself or swing around Navajo Lake, and the final push into Te-Ah drops through a single-track run of evergreen forest that riders single out as one of the better descents on the whole Rim Trail. Because it can link up with the Navajo Lake Loop, this section works well as a self-supported loop rather than requiring a shuttle.
What to know
- About 6.9–8.5 miles depending on exact routing, with roughly 440 ft of climbing and 850 ft of descent
- Rated intermediate; high point near 9,760 ft, low point near 9,170 ft
- Access points at the Cascade Falls Trailhead (within Te-Ah Campground) and the Virgin River Rim Trailhead next to Te-Ah at Navajo Lake
- Can be combined with the Navajo Lake Loop for a self-supported loop without a shuttle
- Non-motorized multi-use — hiking, mountain biking, and horses; Dixie National Forest (USFS) land
- Best late June through September; afternoon thunderstorms are a lightning risk on exposed rim sections in summer
