Upper Slickrock
A slickrock landmark along the Cottonwood Canyon drive
About
Upper Slickrock refers to a scenic overlook along Cottonwood Canyon Road in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, southeast of Bryce Canyon between Cannonville and Highway 89. The road cuts through Navajo sandstone country here, and Lower and Upper Slickrock are among the named features drivers pass on the way to Grosvenor Arch and the Cockscomb Ridge, alongside views of Paria Valley and Butler Valley.
This is a roadside feature along a graded backcountry drive rather than a maintained hiking trail with its own trailhead. Cottonwood Canyon Road is paved from Cannonville to Kodachrome Basin State Park and unpaved beyond that, following the Paria River and Cottonwood Wash — high-clearance is a good idea past the pavement, and the road can be impassable when wet.
