Swamp Canyon Butte
A thousand-foot butte marking Bryce's quieter southern trails
(0)
About
Swamp Canyon Butte rises more than a thousand feet above the canyon floor in the Swamp Canyon section of Bryce Canyon National Park, about 10 miles south of the park entrance along the main park road toward Rainbow Point. It's one of the buttes and cliffs that mark the shift from the hoodoo-packed Bryce Amphitheater in the north to the steeper, more forested terrain along the rest of the scenic drive.
Where to see it
- Visible from the Under-the-Rim Trail near the Right Fork Swamp Canyon backcountry campsite
- Also seen from the Sheep Creek and Swamp Canyon Loop, alongside neighboring Mud Butte
- The Swamp Canyon area sees far fewer visitors than the main amphitheater viewpoints
There's no dedicated summit trail to the butte itself — it's a landmark you view from the surrounding trail network rather than a peak you climb.
