Day Hike
Showalter Trail
A rugged ridge route from Showalter Creek to Hancock Creek
(0)
About
Showalter Trail is a remote, rugged backcountry route on Dixie National Forest land in the Paunsaugunt country near Bryce Canyon City. It starts from Showalter Creek, climbs up behind Casto Bluff, crosses a high mountain ridge lined with cliffs, and descends into Hancock Creek on the far side.
What to expect
- Distinct from the nearby Showalter Bench doubletrack in the Red Canyon trail network - this is a rougher, less-traveled backcountry route
- Ridge walking with cliff exposure along the way, plus real elevation change dropping into Hancock Creek
- USFS-managed - dispersed camping and dogs generally fine on forest land
This is a route for experienced backcountry hikers comfortable with rugged, lightly-marked terrain, not a casual signed day hike - go in with a map and realistic expectations about navigation.
