Day Hike
Sandy Caddy Creek Loop
Twenty-two remote miles through sagebrush and forest
(0)
About
The Sandy-Caddy Creek Loop is a long, lightly-visited route on the northern Cedar City Ranger District of Dixie National Forest, covering more than 22 miles of trail before counting spur routes. It starts in lower-elevation sagebrush on its eastern side and climbs west into forest, following Three-Mile Creek before crossing a ridge and dropping down to Sandy Creek.
Good to know
- The tread narrows in spots to where it's nearly impassable for full-size vehicles - this is backcountry route, not a maintained hiking path in the park sense
- Passes the Bear Valley Guard Station along the way
- Connects to several named spurs - Sandy Creek, Three-Mile Creek, Five-Mile Hollow, Panguitch Creek, and Pole Hollow
- USFS-managed - dispersed camping and dogs are generally fine on this section of forest
This is remote, multi-use forest terrain best suited to experienced backcountry travelers with a map, not a casual day hike.
