Round Valley Draw Trailhead
A narrows canyon reshaped by flash flood, not a casual walk

About
Round Valley Draw is a slot canyon trailhead reached off Cottonwood Canyon Road in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, roughly 13 miles from Cannonville. Road #422 branches off Cottonwood Wash Road, and from there it's about a mile and a half of rough track down to the trailhead, followed by a 20-minute walk down a dry, rocky wash to the mouth of the slot.
What to know before you go
- A four-wheel-drive vehicle is recommended for the access road
- A flash flood in August 2024 reshaped the canyon and made it significantly harder - the first down-climb is now roughly a 20-foot drop
- Canyoneering experience, and ideally a rope and an experienced member in your group, is recommended for the down-climbs
- This is narrows terrain in a monument with real flash-flood exposure - check conditions and the forecast before dropping in
This isn't a casual walk-through slot like some of the shorter Cannonville-area canyons; treat it as a canyoneering objective and go in with the right gear and group experience.
