Day Hike

Rim Trailhead (South)

Where the Rim Trail ends and the backcountry begins

(0)
Bryce Canyon City, UT

About

The south end of Bryce Canyon's Rim Trail is at Bryce Point, 5.5 miles from the trail's northern start at Fairyland Point. Bryce Point does double duty as a trail junction: it's the lower end of the rim-hugging Rim Trail and, at the same time, the upper end of the Under-the-Rim Trail, the long backcountry route running south to Rainbow Point. The Peekaboo Loop also drops from this same parking area.

Good to know

  • At 8,300 feet, Bryce Point is one of the higher viewpoints along the main amphitheater rim
  • From here the Rim Trail heads north toward Inspiration Point, Sunset Point, and Sunrise Point
  • The 1.5-mile Rim Trail stretch between here and Inspiration Point sometimes closes in winter when snow cornices build up along the narrow cliffside path
  • Backcountry permits from the Visitor Center are required for overnight camping on the Under-the-Rim Trail; day hiking needs only the park entrance fee
