This trailhead in Escalante Petrified Forest State Park is the starting point for the Petrified Wood Trail and its connecting Trail of the Sleeping Rainbows extension, set at Wide Hollow Reservoir just outside town. It's a developed trailhead with parking right in the state park, unlike many of the cross-country routes elsewhere in the Escalante area.
What to know
- A day-use fee applies at the park entrance
- Restrooms and picnic areas are available near the trailhead
- Also the jumping-off point for visiting Wide Hollow Reservoir for fishing or paddling before or after a hike
