Henrieville is a tiny community along Highway 12 between Cannonville and Escalante, offering a remote and quiet stop near the northern edge of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Visitors passing through enjoy sweeping views of the surrounding mesa and canyon country.

Those booking with Panorama Trailhead can expect a guided or self-directed adventure tailored to the unique terrain around Bryce Canyon National Park. Many experiences are seasonal, so visitors are encouraged to confirm availability and any gear or fitness requirements in advance.

Best Time to Visit

Spring and fall tend to offer the most comfortable conditions at this elevation in canyon country — temperatures are moderate, light is favorable for taking in the wide views, and crowds are minimal even by local standards. Summer visits are feasible but the midday heat on exposed mesa terrain can be intense; starting early in the morning is worthwhile. Afternoon thunderstorms are common in July and August and can develop quickly across open high terrain, so plan to be off exposed ground before early afternoon during this period. Winter conditions may bring snow or ice to the area, and some access roads in the monument can become muddy or impassable after rain or snowmelt.

Trail Tips

  • Because many experiences here are guided or self-directed with variable routes, confirm trip details, distance, and any fitness requirements with the operator in advance — especially for seasonal offerings.
  • Water sources are not confirmed at this trailhead; carry all water you will need for the full outing before leaving the vehicle.
  • Cell service is unreliable in this part of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument — download offline maps and share your itinerary with someone before heading out.
  • Henrieville has minimal services; stock up on food, water, and fuel before arriving, as resupply options nearby are limited.

Getting There

Panorama Trailhead is located in Henrieville, a small community on Highway 12 between Cannonville and Escalante. Highway 12 is a paved scenic byway, so the drive to Henrieville is straightforward from either direction. The trailhead serves visitors approaching from the Bryce Canyon area to the west or from Escalante to the east. Because Henrieville is a quiet stop with limited services, arrive with a full tank of fuel and any supplies you will need before reaching the trailhead. Road conditions on any unpaved access spur can vary with weather, so check conditions if recent precipitation has occurred in the area.

What to Expect at Panorama Trailhead

Panorama Trailhead sits at the edge of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, where the landscape opens into wide mesa and canyon country that defines this stretch of southern Utah. From the trailhead, visitors gain immediate access to expansive elevated terrain with views that extend across the surrounding tablelands and canyon systems. The experience here is distinctly remote — Henrieville is a small community well off the main tourist circuits, which means far less foot traffic than the busier corridors nearby. Whether you are on a guided outing or exploring independently, the terrain rewards those who take time to scan the horizon from multiple vantage points along the route.

Great hike! In the summer, start at sunrise and go counter-clockwise. Overall an easy-moderate hike, unless you add on Panorama Point (a lot of elevation gain but worth it!). And the Secret Passage loop is so pretty - don't miss it.

This trail is very well maintained, wonderful views, and fairly easy for 60+. 2 hours, no real elevation gain, no scrambling, just an enjoyable easy hike. Don't miss Secret Passage. Nothing crazy to see, just a fun little side loop with minimal scrambling. I started the hike at 25° and followed the signs in a counterclockwise direction. In 5 minutes I was in the morning shade for 30+ minutes freezing my tail off. I would go clockwise if it's morning!

I really enjoyed this hike. The hike was filled with beautiful views and scenery. I can see how it got it's name.

Very beautiful trail that goes near The rocks of different shapes. The trail is pretty easy, it's mostly flat with very low elevation gain in a few parts of a trail. It's suitable for walking, biking or hiking. The loop itself is about 6 km. We did this trail in December so it wasn't very hot. But in the summertime it must be a pretty hot place.
