About
Mortenson Trail (Forest Service Trail #32037) runs from Trail Creek over a small hill into the Little Creek drainage in Dixie National Forest's Cedar City Ranger District. It follows that drainage for about half a mile before turning south and climbing a steep, north-facing slope through ponderosa, fir, and aspen.
What's along the way
- Views from the top take in Mortenson Canyon and Bear Valley, and back south toward Little Valley
- Open sidehills dotted with mahogany continue to a pond near Twin Peaks
- Closed to motorized vehicles — hiking and stock use only
The trail is typically open Memorial Day through Labor Day, weather permitting, since higher sections hold snow into late spring. There are no toilets or potable water along the route, though seasonal streams can be filtered. This is Forest Service land under standard Dixie National Forest rules rather than Bryce Canyon National Park rules.
