About

Mill Creek Trail #33068 climbs steeply through Dixie National Forest east of Alton, part of the Grandview Trail network of connector routes that thread this stretch of the Paunsaugunt Plateau. The path passes through pink ledges typical of this formation, then works up through mixed conifer and aspen stands before easing into Gambel oak and juniper at the lower elevations. It's a working forest trail rather than a scenic showpiece, used mostly to connect into the longer Grandview Trail rather than as a standalone destination.

Good to know

  • Reach the trailhead via East Fork Road, about 11 miles east on SR-12 from US-89, then south about 8 miles
  • Dogs are generally permitted off-leash on Forest Service trails here, unlike the national park trails nearby
  • Expect a steep grade throughout — this connects rather than loops
  • Snow lingers into late spring at these elevations; afternoon thunderstorms are a real hazard on exposed sections in summer
