Day Hike
Lost Hunter Trail
An easy loop straight from Duck Creek Campground
(0)
About
The Lost Hunter Trail is a 2.3-mile loop that starts right at Duck Creek Campground, making it one of the easiest trails in the area to reach without driving anywhere. From Cedar City, it's about 28 miles east on Highway 14 to the campground; the trailhead sits to the right of the amphitheater, and the loop takes a little over an hour at an easy pace.
What to expect
- Thick pine forest and open grassy meadows for most of the route
- Deer sightings are common along the way
- A fork near the start leads uphill to a Forest Service road before the trail picks back up and loops back down to the campground
- Good for hiking, camping-adjacent walks, and horseback riding
Best May through September; dogs are welcome and can be off-leash in places, consistent with this being Dixie National Forest land rather than a National Park trail. Traffic is light — you're unlikely to run into many other hikers.
