Horse Valley Peak

A high point on the Bear Valley to Panguitch Lake loop

About

Horse Valley Peak sits at about 8,620 feet in Dixie National Forest, best known through the Horse Valley Peak Loop, an off-road route that runs south through Bear Valley and Horse Valley before reaching the shore of Panguitch Lake. The road follows a creek bed through lush vegetation as it climbs, opening into high alpine woods and meadows before the terrain shifts to juniper and pinyon forest.

The peak itself functions more as a namesake and high point along this loop than as a hiking summit with its own trail — the OHV section becomes notably rougher on the return leg, recommended for experienced riders rather than beginners, passing through a rock-walled wash before finishing back at the lake. This is Forest Service land under standard Dixie National Forest rules, with dispersed camping common and no entrance fee, distinct from the park rules that apply inside Bryce Canyon itself.
