Henrie Knoll

Henrie Knoll is a volcanic cinder cone rising about 700 feet above the surrounding terrain on the Markagunt Plateau, part of a cluster of similar knolls (Hancock Peak and Strawberry Knolls among them) left over from millions of years of eruptions across this part of Dixie National Forest. The lava flows here have been argon-dated to roughly 58,000 years old, give or take a wide margin, and the black volcanic rock is now overgrown with aspen and conifer.

A short out-and-back route climbs to the roughly 9,239-foot summit, with panoramic views across the Markagunt Plateau and the neighboring knolls once you're up top. This isn't a marked, high-traffic trail — treat it as an undeveloped summit hike on Forest Service land rather than a maintained park trail, with no facilities and no signage at the base. Snow typically closes access here from late fall through spring.
