Day Hike
Henderickson Lake Trail
A steady climb to a small Markagunt Plateau lake
(0)
About
The Hendrickson Lake Trail covers about 1.9 miles with roughly 656 feet of elevation gain, starting off Highway 14 east of Cedar City via Second Left Hand Canyon. It's a moderate out-and-back that climbs steadily before leveling out near the 2-kilometer mark, where the trail meets the small alpine lake that gives it its name.
Along the way
- Mule deer sightings are common, along with birds like mountain bluebird and American kestrel
- Wildflowers including Indian paintbrush and lupine color the route in late spring and early summer
- The lake itself makes a good picnic or rest stop rather than a major destination
This is Dixie National Forest land on the Markagunt Plateau, so Forest Service rules apply — dogs generally allowed, no entrance fee. High elevation here means lingering snow into late spring and a real chance of afternoon thunderstorms in summer, so plan around both.
