Haycock Mountain

A backcountry summit above Panguitch Lake

About

Haycock Mountain tops out around 8,800 feet on the Markagunt Plateau, in the Dixie National Forest country east of Panguitch Lake. Like most of the plateau's named summits, it's a backcountry high point rather than a hiking destination with a built trail or trailhead sign.

What's actually here

  • A forested ridge visible from the Panguitch Lake area, part of the same volcanic plateau that holds the lake, Duck Creek Village, and Navajo Lake
  • Regional use is hunting, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling in winter rather than summer day hikes
  • No maintained tread or marked access — reaching it means forest roads and off-trail travel

Worth knowing about if you're studying the plateau's geography or planning a backcountry ski route, but not a stop for a typical park visit.
