About
Hatch Mountain is a forested summit in the Dixie National Forest backcountry near the town of Hatch, rising to roughly 8,650 feet on the Haycock Mountain USGS quadrangle. It doesn't carry a maintained visitor trail or marked trailhead — it's the kind of high point that shows up on topo maps and OHV/hunting-unit references more than hiking guides.
What's actually here
- A timbered ridge in the ponderosa and mixed-conifer country north of Bryce Canyon, part of the same plateau system that feeds Panguitch Lake and the upper Sevier River drainage
- Used mostly by hunters, cross-country travelers, and backcountry skiers rather than day hikers
- Reached, if at all, by forest roads and route-finding rather than a signed path
If you're set on this summit, a topo map and current Dixie National Forest road conditions are more useful than a trail description — there isn't one to give.
