Great Western Trail - Cameron Wash Section

A connector stretch linking the GWT's Powell Point sections

Bryce Canyon City, UT

About

The Cameron Wash Section (Forest Trail #34001.1) is a connector piece of the Great Western Trail in Dixie National Forest, near Powell Point. Unlike some of the more scenic GWT segments nearby, this stretch mostly follows existing forest roads and double-track rather than dedicated single-track tread.

Good to know

  • On this part of the plateau, the motorized and non-motorized GWT routes run together rather than splitting into separate alignments, so expect to share the road with OHV traffic
  • The section covers roughly 218 meters of elevation change between about 2,315 and 2,534 meters, with a mix of climbing, descending, and flat road walking
  • Its main function is linking neighboring sections for through-travelers working the full length of the GWT, rather than offering a standout destination of its own

If you're looking for the scenic highlights of this part of the Dixie backcountry, the adjacent sections — Barker, Griffin Top, Horse Creek — deliver more; Cameron Wash is the connective tissue between them.
