George Mountain
A 9,000-foot namesake peak in the high country.
About
George Mountain is a 9,022-foot peak in Kane County's Dixie National Forest backcountry near Alton, significant enough to lend its name to its own USGS topographic quadrangle, which also covers neighboring Don Spring Mountain. It sits in the high plateau country between Bryce Canyon and the Sevier Plateau, forested terrain typical of this elevation band.
No maintained trail is documented to the summit — this is backcountry accessed by forest roads rather than a signed hiking route. As Forest Service land, dogs are generally fine and dispersed camping is common in the surrounding forest. Snow holds on through spring at over 9,000 feet, so a summer or early-fall visit is your best bet, and current forest road conditions are worth checking before you go.
