Where the Paunsaugunt trail system starts

About
Gateway Trailhead sits on the west side of Highway 63 near Bryce Canyon City, reached by a connector path that runs south from the Ruby's Inn area and crosses the highway. It's the jumping-off point onto the Paunsaugunt Plateau's OHV and multi-use trail system, which links up with the broader Paunsaugunt trail network running south toward Tropic Reservoir and the East Fork of the Sevier River.
Good to know
- ATVs, UTVs, and snowmobiles aren't permitted inside Bryce Canyon National Park itself, so this trailhead is where riders headed onto forest land pick up the trail instead
- The surrounding Paunsaugunt system covers roughly 25 to 30 miles of terrain across the plateau, dirt and gravel road riding through ponderosa forest
- Non-motorized users can use the same connector to reach forest trails on foot or bike
It's a functional access point rather than a scenic destination on its own — the payoff is what it connects to, not the trailhead itself.
