Day Hike
Fairyland Loop
Eight miles through the park's quietest hoodoos
(0)
About
Fairyland Loop is an 8-mile hike through the least-crowded corner of Bryce Canyon's hoodoo country, combining rim walking near Boat Mesa with a long descent into Fairyland and Campbell Canyons below. The park rates it strenuous, with about 1,716 feet of elevation change over 4-5 hours — the hoodoos here are younger than the ones further south in the main amphitheater, which gives the canyon a different, rawer texture.
Planning the hike
- Start at Fairyland Point or the Tower Bridge trailhead on the Rim Trail north of Sunrise Point; the park suggests hiking counter-clockwise so the climb comes at Tower Bridge rather than the descent
- Fairyland Point has no shuttle service and its access road closes to vehicles in winter for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing
- Snow and ice linger on the rim sections roughly November through April; afternoon monsoon storms bring lightning risk to exposed stretches July through September
- No pets — this trail is entirely inside the national park
It's a full below-rim commitment, not a short overlook stroll, so plan water, sun protection, and a turnaround time accordingly.
