Deer Mountain
A 9,000-ft summit in the mule deer country
About
Deer Mountain rises to roughly 9,009 feet in the Dixie National Forest backcountry of Garfield County, about six miles north of Boulder Town in the high plateau country east of Bryce Canyon. Mule deer range through this stretch of forest in large numbers, which likely explains the name — the area sits within the broader herd migration corridor the Forest Service and Utah wildlife managers track between summer and winter range.
There's no maintained trail or trailhead tied to the peak itself; this is forested high country reached by forest roads rather than a signed hiking route. Hunters and cross-country travelers are the main users. If you're headed into this ground, a Dixie National Forest map and a check with the district office on current road and route conditions are the practical starting point, since nothing suggests visitor infrastructure at the summit.
