Crawford Bench Trail
Plateau bench on the ATV route toward Powell Point
About
Crawford Bench sits on the Paunsaugunt Plateau backcountry west of Bryce Canyon City, in the general country between Straight Canyon and Crawford Canyon that feeds south toward Powell Point on the Table Cliff Plateau. It doesn't show up as a maintained hiking trail in Forest Service or park literature — the documented route through this area is the Straight Canyon-to-Crawford Canyon ATV trail, a narrow, twisty motorized route open to ATVs but too tight for UTVs. That trail climbs onto the bench en route to Powell Point, where a Wesley Powell survey marker and a wide view over the Escalante Mountains await.
Treat Crawford Bench itself as a backcountry landform rather than a signed destination: forested plateau terrain used mostly by OHV riders passing through and, in season, hunters. Anyone heading into this country should have a Dixie National Forest travel map and check current OHV route status with the Powell Ranger District before setting out.
