Covered Wagon Natural Bridge Trail
A short walk to a bridge and grotto off Cedar Wash Road
(0)
About
Covered Wagon Natural Bridge spans a small tributary of Alvey Wash along Cedar Wash Road south of Escalante, and it's one of the easier natural features to reach in this stretch of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument — a quarter-mile walk down to the bridge itself. Past the bridge, a cool grotto carved into the sandstone runs another 50 yards or so, worth the extra few minutes.
What to know
- Drive south on Center Street from Escalante, which becomes Proctor Road and then Cedar Wash Road; the drive turns to dirt after about 3.5 miles
- Round trip is short, roughly 0.4 miles with minimal elevation change
- Usually combined with a visit to Cedar Wash Arch, about 1.2 miles further down the same road
