About
This is the lower photo viewpoint for Cedar Wash Arch, a white Entrada sandstone arch reached via Cedar Wash Road south of Escalante. Rather than looking down on the arch from the cliff top, this route puts you below it — the angle photographers generally prefer, especially in fall and winter shortly after sunrise. The spot is sometimes marked as Sunrise Viewpoint on trail maps.
Good to know
- Drive south from Escalante on Center Street, which becomes Proctor Road and then Cedar Wash Road — about 9 miles of mostly dirt driving
- The route to the viewpoint isn't well marked; bring a map or GPS track
- Often paired with a stop at nearby Covered Wagon Natural Bridge, about 1.2 miles further down Cedar Wash Road
