Day Hike
Canaan Peak Trail
One ridge, four landmarks: Bryce, Powell Point, and beyond
(0)
About
Canaan Peak Trail climbs from a Dixie National Forest trailhead to a ridge with 360-degree views spanning Powell Point, Bryce Canyon National Park, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, and Glen Canyon National Recreation Area — a rare stretch of trail where four major landmarks line up from one vantage. The climb to the ridge top comes fast, about a quarter mile in, then continues along higher ground with the Kaiparowits Plateau's canyons unfolding to the south.
Good to know
- Trailhead: off Highway 12 between mile markers 44–45, south on FR 146 (signed South Hollow and Canaan Peak) for 4.7 miles to a shallow stock pond parking area
- Open to foot, mountain bike, and horse travel; closed to OHVs and e-bikes
- Exposed ridge terrain means real lightning risk during summer thunderstorms — start early and watch the sky
