Day Hike
Bull Valley Gorge Trailhead
The dirt-road doorway into Bull Valley Gorge's slot canyon

About
Bull Valley Gorge Trailhead is the access point for the slot canyon of the same name, reached via Skutumpah Road south of Cannonville — about 6 to 8 miles down a graded dirt road that a higher-clearance vehicle handles more comfortably, and that can become impassable entirely when wet. Parking is tight, room for roughly two vehicles with a few pull-outs nearby, positioned right at the north end of the bridge crossing the gorge.
Good to know
- The hike into the canyon starts by walking upstream (west) from the trailhead, just before the bridge
- This is Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument land — no maintained facilities at the trailhead itself
- Check road conditions before driving out; Skutumpah Road washes out and turns to impassable mud after rain
- Flash-flood risk applies to the canyon beyond the trailhead, tied to summer storms — check conditions before entering
