A short, easy climb in the high country.

About
Bowers Knoll is an easy trail in the Dixie National Forest backcountry near Alton, climbing to a summit of about 8,260 feet over a short 2.8-mile route. USDA Forest Service trail data lists it as typically open May through November, which lines up with how snow and mud shut down most of this high country through the winter and early spring.
- Easy difficulty, roughly 30 minutes to a couple hours depending on pace
- Forest Service land — dogs generally fine, dispersed camping common in the area
- A good option for a short, low-commitment outing rather than a full-day trip
There's no visitor center or facilities at the trailhead, so bring water and check current road access before you go, especially early or late in the season when high-elevation dirt roads can still be snowed in or soft.
