Boat Mesa
The ship-shaped mesa anchoring the north end of the amphitheater

About
Boat Mesa is the hard-capped formation that separates Fairyland Canyon from the rest of Bryce Amphitheater, rising to about 8,073 feet in the park's north end. Erosion has worn away the softer rock around it into hoodoos while the mesa's resistant caprock has held its shape, so it reads from a distance like a ship riding above a sea of spires — the resemblance is where the name comes from.
Where to see it
- Sunset Point looks out over most of the amphitheater, Boat Mesa included
- Sunrise Point frames it alongside the Sinking Ship formation, with the Pink Cliffs and Aquarius Plateau behind
- The Fairyland Loop Trail runs along the rim above it, with the mesa rising over the hoodoos below
There's no trail onto Boat Mesa itself — it's a formation to view from the rim and connecting trails, not a summit to climb.
