Black Birch Canyon Overlook

A quick roadside look into the canyon toward the Table Cliff Plateau

(0)
Bryce Canyon City, UT

About

Black Birch Canyon Overlook sits just north of Mile 16 on the park road, at roughly 8,750 feet — a quick pull-out rather than a trailhead. There's no trail access here, just an in-and-out look at how sharply the cliffs fall away from the pavement, with hoodoos below that are modest compared to the amphitheater's, and the Paria Valley and upper steps of the Grand Staircase spread out beyond, backed by the 10,000-foot Table Cliff Plateau across the valley.

Good to know

  • The pullout is on the left side of the road heading south — most people visit it on the way back down after Rainbow Point
  • Despite the name, there's no black birch here; the tree that likely got mistaken for one is quaking aspen
  • Snow and ice can linger on the park road and pullouts roughly November through April
