Yankee Meadows Reservoir

A quiet meadow lake above Parowan

About

Yankee Meadow Reservoir sits about 10 miles southeast of Parowan off Highway 143, a 53-acre lake surrounded by open meadow and conifer-aspen forest in Dixie National Forest. It's smaller and quieter than Panguitch Lake, with a maximum depth around 26 feet, and it's managed as Forest Service water — no potable water or restrooms on site, so plan accordingly.

What to expect

  • Rainbow and cutthroat trout fishing, with occasional brook trout, best worked with night crawlers or spinners
  • Non-motorized boating on the reservoir itself
  • A Forest Service campground nearby and several ATV routes threading the surrounding high country, including the Markagunt and Second Left Hand trail systems

Access typically runs late spring through fall and depends on snowpack and road conditions each year — this is high volcanic-plateau country, so check conditions before heading up early or late in the season. Dogs and dispersed camping are generally fine here under standard Forest Service rules.
