About
Wide Hollow Reservoir is a 130-acre irrigation lake built in 1954, sitting inside Escalante Petrified Forest State Park just outside town. It's stocked with rainbow trout, bluegill, largemouth bass and black crappie, and since motorized boats aren't allowed, it stays quiet enough for shore fishing, swimming, and paddling. The state park rents kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards right at the boat launch, so you don't need to bring your own gear.
What's there
- Boat ramp, picnic areas, and both the Wide Hollow campground and Lave View RV campground with hookups
- Non-motorized boating only — a calm option for families or anyone wanting a break from canyon hiking
- Paired with the park's petrified wood trails, making it an easy half-day combined with a short hike
