About
Flax Lakes sits in the small cluster of stock ponds east of Alton, off an unnamed dirt road in the Long Valley Junction area of Kane County. It's one of a handful of shallow lakes here, along with McDonald Lake and the Le Vanger Lakes, that locals and Long Valley residents use for casual fishing rather than anything the state promotes as a destination fishery.
What to expect
- A small, quiet pond rather than a developed recreation site — no facilities to speak of
- Reachable by dirt road from the Alton area, at roughly 7,000+ ft elevation
- Best treated as a stop for anglers already working the Alton ponds circuit, not a standalone trip
Check current access and any fishing regulations with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources before you go, since these small waters aren't consistently stocked or maintained for public fishing.
