Flat Lake

Flat Lake is one of several small stocked fishing lakes strung along the Barker Lakes Loop in the North Creek Lakes area of the Dixie National Forest, northwest of Escalante. Like its neighbors Blue Lake and Yellow Lake, it's a Utah Division of Wildlife Resources brook trout lake, more of a backcountry fishing stop than a scenic destination in its own right.

• Reached via Forest Road 149 from the Barker Recreation Area, about 16 miles in
• Backcountry campsite with a bear box and fire pit nearby
• Utah fishing license required; no separate access fee
• Typically accessible late spring through fall, closed by snow otherwise

This is Forest Service land, so the rules are more relaxed than inside the national park boundary — dogs are generally welcome and dispersed camping is common along the loop.
