Thunderbird Restaurant

Thunderbird Restaurant has been feeding road-trippers and locals in Orderville for long enough that it's earned its place as a genuine southern Utah standby. The retro feel isn't manufactured. It's just what the place is, and that's part of the charm.

The menu leans hard into American comfort food done right. Chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes, blackened chicken alfredo, roast beef dinner, breakfast burritos, biscuit sandwiches with gravy. These are the dishes that make sense after a day of hiking. The salad bar is a nice bonus, and they bring out a mini loaf of bread that regulars seem to genuinely love.

The pies are the thing people talk about most. Homemade, and they spell it "ho-made" on the menu, which tells you something about the personality of this place. Get a slice before you leave. You won't regret it.

Orderville sits right on US-89, about 15 miles east of Zion National Park and roughly an hour from Bryce Canyon National Park. It's a natural stopping point whether you're connecting parks or heading back toward Las Vegas or Salt Lake City. The staff moves efficiently when you're in a hurry, and the portions are solid for the price.

Nothing here is trying to be something it isn't. That's exactly what makes it worth stopping for.
